Logitech G9 Woes...
Well, before I get to the help I need, I will NOT be buying logitech mice again......bloody cheap crap (rant over)
Anyways, to the problem I have. My G9 left scroll button has decided to intermittently stop working and rather than wait for logitech to get up off thier lazy arses and sort me out a replacement as it's still under warranty (but they wont reply to emails), I have decided to fix it myself.
I have already bought new mouse feet (which I didn't get from logitech either as they only sell the bloody things to people in the USA) as I need to remove the original feet to get into the mouse and replace the surface mounted tactile button shown below...
And that is where the problem lies. I have found the button that I need online (or close enough) and they are cheap enough to buy, but am I hell as going to pay £12 shipping when the buttons only cost pennies. The reason for the high price is that they have to come from (you guessed it) the bloody USA!
So this is where you nice ppl come in . Have any of you seen these in this country for sale or know where I can get my hands on one very cheap because I begrudge paying £12 for something that might not fix it
Also found these as well, which I might just use instead to replace the 2 buttons with as they look more robust and also match the middle click button on the pic in first post:
As to the soldering, no problem there as I've soldered a few DSI power switches in me time, even made a custom bit for the soldering iron which is just a peice of tinned wire coiled round the main bit
Seeing as I can't seem to find a tut online for doing this, I may post one myself. A step by step, fix your own mouse with new switches tutorial, complete with pretty pics
UPDATE.....
Load of bollox...... minimum spend is £20...... not looking good then hoping its a dry joint on the switch but doubt it
possible that you could clean the contact on the present switch - use something like Isopropanol or methanol (methylated spirit maybe) and drown the switch in it while clicking away (unplugged) that way if there's some gease/grime stopping the contact you might wash it out.
Took a dell boggo mouse apart to see if there was a switch in there to match that I could send you, as you can see there's not, but it is interesting to see how little extra we get in quality terms by buying these lovely posh mice.
I like your custom soldering idea, I've long-hated trying to do any surface mount work and don't want to fork out on a proper temp. controlled iron at the moment so that sounds like a neat solution.

Update #2
On the off chance, I emailed logitech customer support instead of wasting my time with the forums as I had before. All I can say is...I take it all back I think I may love you logitech!
This is what I got back after just a couple of hours (remember, this is the USA )

Dear Tim,
Thank you for contacting Logitech Technical Support.
We do apologize for the delayed response. I have reviewed your case notes and I would like to assist in resolving your issue with your G9 Laser Mouse regarding
the left scroll is not working.
I apologize for the inconvenience this have caused you. In this case, I would like to offer you a replacement provided that it is still under the warranty period.
Delayed response???! That's bloody quick compared to some companies and to offer me a replacement provided it is still in the 3 year warranty (which it is as they only came out in September 2007 and I got mine in the November same year).
So, providing all is well, I should get a new mouse. And by reading some websites regarding logitech customer support, they will basically suck your cock if it means keeping your business!
Just hope they don't want the old one back now as I think I may have fixed it ( re-soldered joints on button...)

So looks like I will be getting the newer version of the mouse back yay . As to them wanting the old one back, it certainly reads like that although they don't always do it. All depends on the person covering the case from what I've read online. No biggy though.

I CAN KEEP THE "FAULTY" MOUSE! So will do some testing to see if I have fixed it and then I have a spare to do with as I please.
When I was trying to get them to fix my G7 they said I couldn't have a replacement as they don't do them, but they offered my a G9 or an MX Revolution instead.
They either wanted:
- Proof of purchase
- Me to send the mouse back at my cost
or
- To take a picture of the mouse, a second picture with the mouse on a piece of paper with a code they gave me written on it, and then a third picture of the same mouse on the same piece of paper, however this time the mouse was to be totally destroyed beyond repair. All three pictures were to be emailed to them and then they would send replacement.
A little long winded, but it was better than paying for postage.
But now that logitech do ID grips for my mouse, it doesn't look so ugly.
Add to that that you can get a custom picture put in them (was going to put a smokey mashed pic in - see media forums for pic) then it makes it even more lovely. The grip also covers the mouse more and makes it less of a claw grip and more conventional.
But, at the end of the day, FREE UPGRADE! (anyone wanna buy a logitech G9 with new mouse feet? )

This is a shame, tried to buy this online but custom grips are only available in the USA at the moment (might have another nice chat with Logitech CS )
