So i'm having major issues with my Virgin Media connection (always from 4pm onwards so its most likely local upload contention but hey)
I seem incapable of getting through to 2nd line support, each time I waste 20mins to get through to first line they have not been able to transfer me through.
Any tips? What is the quickest way to speak to someone who can help? I've resorted to sending a very very annoyed complaint in to see if that sparks any progress but would like to cover all bases.
I reckon even getting a new modem/line check would be a start from where I'm sat.
Here's the email with details for anyone who is interested.

Dear Virgin Media,
Firstly I would like to apologise for the tone of this email, as a customer of Telewest originally I have been with Virgin Media for a long time but have found my patience wearing incredibly thin of late.
I am emailing to request technical support in fixing an ongoing fault with my 20mb cable broadband service. I have wasted many hours with front line support and have gotten nowhere.
For the past 5 weeks I have been experiencing regular issues, typically from the hours of 4pm - 12pm. Outside these hours everything is fine.
Here are the symptoms observed from multiple computers (so as to rule out spyware/bandwidth problems) and yes I have rebooted the modem/computers multiple times.
1. I am able to connect to the internet.
2. I have not been bandwidth throttled due to excessive downloading/uploading
3. I am able to achieve full download speeds of 20mb/s
4. My modem reports no errors or faults.
5. The incoming and outgoing traffic is under 5kb/s (ie no bandwidth hogs)
6. My ping is fine at 20-30ms
7. I am getting approx 0.5-1% packet loss when pinging various remote websites.
8. The most worrying – Nearly 5% of all TCP traffic is retransmission packets. This is caused by the modem/upstream devices not delivering the outgoing packets to their destination, causing my computer to have to request the data again.
What this equates to is an average website loading time of 1 minute or more, due to all the http requests timing out. In some cases the website only partially loads as my browser has given up requesting the missing files. This makes web browsing almost impossible during these hours, not to mention extremely frustrating. If this continues I think my girlfriend will go mad, being able to load google mail when she gets home from work is not to much to ask surely?
This also means a continuous data stream is almost impossible for something like ventrillo or skype, causing constant disconnects and drops.
The way I see it there are two possible faults, either something is wrong with my modem/line or the local area is oversubscribed. Note that the above symptoms can very much be caused by upstream equipment not having sufficient outgoing bandwidth and having to drop packets.
I would be very grateful if this could be passed on to someone who knows enough to help with this problem, I am more than happy to troubleshoot modem issues etc… but have found it impossible to get through to anyone who can help with this on the phone.
Turns out it was a repeat, but there was a great piece on the Gadget show which I enjoyed last night, Jason the hardcore gamer and Dallas the Noob get it on with amusing results.

I know there are some apple lovers and haters here, and equally some Android users, so I thought I'd get your opinions before going ahead and upgrading my mobile phone next month.
At the moment I'm really tempted by the HTC Wildfire
or maybe the desire (or something else Android powered)
I also know someone with the iPhone 4 and they've had all sorts of antenna signal issues (as I'm sure you've all heard about) which is putting me off an iPhone
So, vote and/or comment now. Which is best? HTC + Android phone or Apple iPhone?
I've a PC which I use as a multimedia toy. There's 3 drives in it, 2 IDE (C with windows, D 300gb) and the problem drive E which is 1TB, currently showing 1/2 full with most of the files ok, however there's one folder called movies which HAD hundreds of files in it, now there are only 3, all AVI's, the rest has just disappeared.
WTF ? Quite upset as this is a lot of downloading there. Last thing we did with it was watch some episodes of the Wire and shut it down. Next day >>100gb GONE. It's NTFS , I've tried looking everywhere for the files and a couple of restore programs which seem to see nothing. In the past when I've screwed up drives by my own ineptitude I've used these programs quite succsessfully but not now. Any ideas at all would be great.
